How could I resist little Miss Moonie when I saw her at the pet store? It was another hopeless case of "look at her, she is so sweet, I want to take her home." She was sitting at the back of the cage, all calm and collected, just watching her brothers and sisters play and wrestle. Moonie was our fourth kitty and because she was the new baby, Cowboy (thinking HE was our baby) did not care for her at all when we brought her home; there was a lot of hissing and dirty looks which would continue for months before our other three cats finally started accepting her. Bellie and Moonie eventually became good friends but poor little Moonie had a rough start.
We were amazed at how much this little kitten could eat. She would stuff her little tummy until she was so round and full that we were afraid of lifting her off the counter. We thought she might burst if we pressed her belly too hard. She always looked like she had swallowed a tennisball without chewing it first.
Moonie has gotten locked into different drawers and cabinets in our house so many times. She loves climbing into dark, secret hiding places when you are not looking. The standard question in our household is "have you seen Moonie lately?" But she most prefers to lie flat on peoples' bellies especially when there is a warm woollen blanket involved-even in the biggest summer heat. But PLEASE-don't laugh, talk, sneeze, cough or move in any way while she owns your tummy. She will let you know that she does NOT approve of the commotion!
These days, as our kitty family is becoming smaller and smaller, Miss Moonie and our fluffy little Bushie cat hang out in the back yard a lot soaking up the sun, rolling in catnip, and letting everybody know that life is really good.
